Christmas on Dartmoor and Mrs Willett, Captain Trevelyan's tenant, gives a party. A table-rapping session announces that Trevelyan is dead, and sure enough his body is found in his house, ten miles away. Inspector Narracott wanders through a maze of false clues and suspects, and ultimately discovers the murderer.
