During the last few months of her life, Charlotte Bronte set the scene of a new novel to be called "Emma" In the two opening chapters there is a mysterious and unloved child,bullied and unhappy at a school run on shallow and mercenary principles. Now another lady takes up the story and developed this domestic mystery into a piece of period pastiche with characters very much in the Bronte style.
