Too marvellous for words - the life and genius of Art Tatum

Art Tatum defined the limits of the possible in jazz piano. With the technical ability to make concert musicians pay attention, and with the improvisational creativity to make jazz musicians go anywhere to hear him, he had the potential for beeing a giant in either world. What did he really want? How did he really see himself? There was no question in which world he would have to make his career. Partly because of his blindness, but mainly because of the barriers a black musician faced in his time, jazz offered Tatum the only viable way forward in music. "Too marvelous for words" provides the first full-length biography of Art Tatum.
